Guruvar Vrat Katha & Aarti Overview
There is a law to worship Lord Brihaspati on Thursday or Thursday. Jupiter deity is considered the deity of wisdom and education. Worshiping Lord Jupiter on Thursday gives wealth, knowledge, son and desired fruit. There is happiness and peace in the family. Fasting on Thursday is also observed for early marriage.
But while worshiping on Thursday, it should be kept in mind that the worship should be according to the rules and regulations. On the day of fasting, one should wake up early in the morning and worship Lord Brihaspati. Jupiter is worshiped by offering yellow things, yellow flowers, donation of gram, yellow sweets, yellow rice etc. In this fast, only worship banana.At the time of Katha and worship, by being pure in mind, deeds and words, one should pray to Jupiter for fulfillment of wishes. Eat only once a day. Eat gram dal etc., don’t eat salt, wear yellow clothes, use yellow fruits, worship with yellow sandalwood. After worship one should listen to the story of Lord Brihaspati.
Story of Guruvar Vrat
It is a matter of ancient times. A very majestic and charitable king used to rule in a state. He kept fast on every Thursday and earned merit by donating to the hungry and poor, but his queen did not like this thing. She neither fasted nor gave a single penny to anyone in charity and refused to do the same to the king.
Once upon a time, the king had gone to the forest for hunting. There was a queen and a maid in the house. At the same time, Guru Vrihaspatidev came to the king’s door to beg for alms in the form of a monk. When the sadhu begged the queen, she said, O Sadhu Maharaj, I am fed up with this charity and virtue. You tell me such a solution, so that all the money gets destroyed and I can live comfortably.
Brihaspati Dev said, O Goddess, you are very strange, someone is sad because of children and money. If there is more money, then use it in auspicious works, get unmarried girls married, build schools and gardens, so that both your worlds improve, but the queen was not happy with these words of the sage. He said – I do not need such money, which I donate and in which all my time is lost in handling.
Then the monk said – If you have such a wish, then do as I tell you. On Thursday, you should smear the house with cow dung, wash your hair with yellow soil, take bath while washing hair, ask the king to shave, eat meat and alcohol in food, and put clothes to be washed at the washerman. By doing seven Thursdays in this way, all your wealth will be destroyed. By saying this, Jupiter in the form of a monk disappeared.
Doing as per the sage’s advice, only three Thursdays had passed for the queen that all her wealth and property were destroyed. The king’s family started craving for food. Then one day the king said to the queen – O queen, you stay here, I go to another country, because everyone here knows me. That’s why I can’t do any small work. Saying this, the king went abroad. There he used to cut wood from the forest and sell it in the city. In this way he started spending his life. Here, as soon as the king went abroad, the queen and the maidservant started feeling sad.
Once the queen and the maidservant had to live without food for seven days, the queen said to her maidservant, O maidservant, my sister lives in a nearby city. She is very rich. You go to him and bring something so that you can survive a little. The maid went to the queen’s sister. That day was Thursday and the queen’s sister was listening to the story of Thursday fast at that time. The maid gave the message of her queen to the queen’s sister, but the queen’s elder sister did not respond. When the maid did not get any answer from the queen’s sister, she became very sad and got angry. The maid came back and told the whole thing to the queen. Hearing this, the queen cursed her fate.
On the other hand, the queen’s sister thought that my sister’s maid had come, but I did not speak to her, she must have been very sad because of this. After listening to the story and finishing the worship, she came to her sister’s house and said – O sister, I was fasting on Thursday. Your maid came to my house, but till the story is told, he neither gets up nor speaks, so I did not speak. Tell why the maid had gone.
The queen said- Sister, what should I hide from you, there was no grain to eat in our house. While saying this, the queen’s eyes were filled with tears. She told her sister in detail about being hungry for the last seven days along with the maid. The queen’s sister said – Look sister, Lord Jupiter fulfills everyone’s wishes. Look, maybe you have grains in your house. At first the queen did not believe, but on the insistence of her sister, she sent her maid inside, and she really found a pot full of grains. The maid was very surprised to see this. The maidservant started saying to the queen – O queen, when we do not get food, we do fast, so why not ask them the method of fasting and story, so that we too can fast. Then the queen asked her sister about the fast on Thursday.
His sister told, worship Lord Vishnu in banana root with gram dal and dry grapes on Thursday’s fast and light a lamp, listen to the fasting story and eat only yellow food. Jupiter is pleased with this. The queen’s sister returned to her home after telling the method of fasting and worship.
When Thursday came after the seventh day, the queen and the maidservant observed a fast as decided. Went to the stable and brought gram and jaggery and then worshiped banana root and Lord Vishnu with its lentils. Now both were very sad about where the yellow food came from. Since he had observed a fast, Gurudev was pleased with him. That’s why he took the form of an ordinary person and gave beautiful yellow food in two plates to the maid. The maid was happy after getting the food and then took the food along with the queen.
After that they all started fasting and worshiping on Thursdays. By the grace of Lord Brihaspati, she got wealth again, but the queen again started laziness like before. Then the maid said- Look queen, earlier also you used to be lazy like this, you used to have difficulty in keeping money, due to this all the money was destroyed and now when you have got money by the grace of Lord Gurudev, you feel lazy again.
We have got this money after a lot of trouble, so we should do charity, feed hungry people, and spend the money in auspicious works, which will increase the fame of your family, get heaven and make ancestors happy. . After listening to the maid, the queen started spending her money in auspicious works, due to which her fame started spreading in the whole city.
By observing the fast of Lord Jupiter on Thursday, there is always an abundance of happiness and wealth in the house.
गुरुवार की आरती।।
तुम पूर्ण परमात्मा, तुम अन्तर्यामी।
जगतपिता जगदीश्वर, तुम सबके स्वामी॥
ऊँ जय बृहस्पति देवा॥
चरणामृत निज निर्मल, सब पातक हर्ता।
सकल मनोरथ दायक, कृपा करो भर्ता॥
ऊँ जय बृहस्पति देवा॥
तन, मन, धन अर्पण कर, जो जन शरण पड़े।
प्रभु प्रकट तब होकर, आकर द्वार खड़े॥
ऊँ जय बृहस्पति देवा॥
दीनदयाल दयानिधि, भक्तन हितकारी।
पाप दोष सब हर्ता, भव बन्धन हारी॥
ऊँ जय बृहस्पति देवा॥ सकल मनोरथ दायक, सब संशय तारो।
विषय विकार मिटाओ, सन्तन सुखकारी॥
ऊँ जय बृहस्पति देवा॥
जो कोई आरती तेरी प्रेम सहित गावे।
जेष्टानन्द बन्द सो सो निश्चय पावे॥
ऊँ जय बृहस्पति देवा॥
Puja Vidhi:
- On Thursday wake up early in the morning and take bath.
- Wear yellow colored clothes only after taking bath and worship wearing these clothes during worship. Offer water to Lord Surya and Mother Tulsi and Shaligram.
- Worship Lord Vishnu properly in the temple and use yellow things for worship.
- Use yellow flowers, gram dal, yellow sweets, yellow rice, and turmeric.
- After this worship is done on the trunk of banana tree with gram pulse.
- Offer water containing turmeric to the banana tree. Along with gram dal, raisins should also be offered to the roots of the banana tree.
- After this, perform aarti of that tree by lighting a lamp of ghee and recite the fast story sitting near the banana tree.
- Fasting is observed throughout the day during the fast. Food can be taken once a day after the sun has set. It is better if you eat yellow things in food. But don’t use salt even by mistake.
- Banana is considered very auspicious in the form of Prasad. But the person observing fast should not eat banana on this day. Donate banana to charity. It is necessary to listen to the story of Brihaspati Dev after worship. It is said that without listening to the story, the fast is not considered complete and its full fruit is not received.
