You must know the story of India’s first female teacher, Savitribai Phule, who inspired Maitrinino women to pursue education. Because of which today women are educated, child marriage is banned, widow oppression is curbed. And there is the welfare of women.
Savitribai Phule was the first woman teacher in the country who spent her whole life for the welfare of women and uprooted evil practices in the society.
Jyotirao and Savitribai Phule started the first school for girls in 1848 and gradually they opened 18 schools.
It is said that when Savitribai Phule used to go to school to teach girls, people would throw mud, dung, stones and excrement on her, Savitribai Phule would keep a saree with her and change after going to school.
Savitribai Phule is an example of a woman society, who shook the male-dominated society, removed the hollow foundation, presented an image of equality, where women not only got respect, but found a new way of living. They got the courage to fight against whatever oppression was being done to them.
At that time, if a girl was child-married and became a widow, her hair was shaved and she was not allowed to enter any social function. For them, Savitribai Phule educated women by opening a care center for widows in her home and laid the foundations of a society where women got equal rights and people who used to throw stones yesterday started respecting women.
It is said that at that time a terrible plague broke out, Savitribai Phule opened a hospital to take care of the patients and while taking care of the people, she also contracted the plague and died on 10th March 1897.

Mr. President, Reverend Guru Janvarg and all my friends, today I am expressing my thoughts about Krantijyoti Savitribai Phule, India’s first female teacher. Savitribai Phule was born on 3 January 1831 at Naigaon in Satara district. His mother’s name was Lakshmibai and his father’s name was Khandoji Nevse Patil. He got married at the age of nine. After marriage, Jyotiba taught them to read and write.
Mahatma Phule and Savitribai opened the first school for girls in Budhwar Peth in Pune in 1948 AD. People threw stones at the children while they were going to teach them in school.
