Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay was born on September 15, 1876, at Devanandpur in Hooghly district, Bengal Presidency, India, now known as West Bengal.
Sharat chandra ji is considered to be one of the most popular and most translated writers of India of all time. This great personality died at the age of 61 in the year 1938 on 16 January in Kolkata, Bengal Presidency, India. In most of his works, he has described the lifestyle of the people of the village, their struggle and the crisis faced by them. Sharat Chandra Chattopadhyay was one of the 9 children of his parents, whose childhood was spent in Devanandpur and adolescence in Bhagalpur. At the age of five, Sharatchandra was admitted to the ‘Pyaari Pandit ki Pathshala’ of Devanandpur.Due to poverty in the family, his father left him in Nanihal (which was in Bhagalpur).
