Overview of Ratha Saptami Puja
Ratha Saptami or Rathasapthami is an auspicious Hindu festival that falls on the seventh day in the bright Hindu month of Magha. It is considered to be the birth anniversary of God Surya. It is believed that on this day, the Sun God enlightened the world with his powerful rays.Ratha Saptami, also known as Magha Saptami, Magh Jayanti, and Surya Jayanti, is considered a major and deeply significant festival celebrated throughout India. On this day, devotees pay homage to Lord Surya, who is believed to be an incarnation of Lord Vishnu.
Surya Puja.
Lord Surya rules the world in the form of Brahma in the morning, Maheshwar in the afternoon and Vishnu in the evening. Vedas and Upanishads mention Ratha Saptami, which is Magha Shuddha Saptami, as Surya Jayanthi. On this day, everyone should wake up early in the morning and take a bath by keeping jilledu leaves on their head and shoulders and reciting the sloka “Sapta Sapta Maha Sapta, Sapta Dweepa Vasundhara, Saptarka Ramadhar Saptami Ratha Saptami”.
Chief of Health.
Jilledu leaves are very pleasant to the sun. These are also called Arkapatras. Also, since the cow is sacred, for three days of Sankranti, offerings made of goksheera on gobemmas made of cow are offered to Suryabhaga Vanu. As a result, he is believed to be satisfied. Rathasaptami falls in autumn season. The Hemanta season before Sisram is very cold. From Magha Shukla Saptami, the intensity of the sun’s rays increases, causing changes in the weather.Scientists have also proved that taking a bath with jilledu leaves will protect you from skin diseases and illnesses caused by climate change due to its medicinal properties. ‘Arogyam Bhaskaradhichhet’ means that health belongs to Surya and he is the bestower of health. Samaveda states that sun worship brings health, vitality and strength.
Enlightenment comes.
Krishna Yajurveda also explains that worshiping the sun leads to wisdom. Puranas also say that in the form of Aditya, Vatapitta gives relief from diseases, in the form of Savitri, all-weapon sufferings, and in the form of Pushna gives a happy birth. Surya Namaskars are also mentioned in Puranas. Surya Namaskar is a complete practice of yogasana, pranayama, mantra and chakra meditation. If these are done in Brahma Muhurta i.e. in the morning, there will be good results.
Lord Rama also measured the sun.
It is Jagdvidita that before the battle with Ravana, Lord Rama recited Aditya’s heart and performed Surya Namaskaras, he was victorious. Suryanamaskar should be performed in 12 postures with the mantras
- Om Mitrayanamah
- Om Ravayenamah,
- Om Suryayanamah,
- Om Bhanuvenamah,
- Om Khagayanamah,
- Om Pushnenamah,
- Om Hiranya Garbhayanamah,
- Om Marichayenamah,
- Om Adityayanamah,
- Om Savithrenamah,
- Om Arkayanamah,
- Om Bhaskarayanamah.
As a result, 600 muscles in the body move and get energy.
Legend about the sun
There is also a legend about the influence of the Sun. When Lord Krishna’s son Samba was afflicted with leprosy, he was cured by worshiping the sun with 12 verses. Also in Dwapara Yuga, a king named Satrajittu worshiped Lord Surya and got Samanthakamani as a gift. If those who are suffering from illness perform Aruna Parayanam, Arunahoma, visit Surya Narayana Swamy in Arasavalli, or visit Suryanandi Swara Swamy near Nandyal in Kurnool district on Ratha Saptami day, complete health will be achieved. Therefore, one should worship Udayabhan, who is the god of health, Aishwarya Dhata, and the ideal figure for all. Sun changes its directions from Ratha Saptami day onwards. The immortal Hanuman is also a disciple of Surya. Anjaneya was a dear disciple who started his education in Suryodayam and completed it at sunset.
Procession in different temples.
Lord Surya, who is worshiped as the counterpart of Lord Vishnu, is worshiped in a grand manner in the country and abroad. On Rathasaptami, Surya Mandalas and Suryadevara processions are held grandly at Arasavalli Sun Temple, Mysore Temple in Karnataka. Besides, Rathotsavam is performed with great splendor in Mangalore Veera Venkateswara Swamy Mandir. In Tirupati, Malayappaswamy is decorated on Rathasaptami and is paraded along with Sridevi and Bhudevi on Saptavahanas. Lord Surya Prabha, Chin Sesha, Garuda, Hanuma, Chakrasana, Kalpa Vriksha and Sarva Bhupala ride in the streets of Tirumada and enjoy the pleasure. The seven-hilled one is a septavaha and shines like the seven-seven sun. Also, that direct Narayan should be taken as an ideal for enthusiasm, joy, happiness, difficulty and hard work. It is not known whether there are 33 crores of gods, but there is no doubt that the witness who gives darshan without asking is Surya Bhagavan. It is Suryabhagavan who fulfills his duty properly.
