Overview of Na Mantram No Yantram Lyrics
This is a mantra in which we say to Maa Durga to apologize for the mistake of our sins in front of Maa Durga. Oh mother! I neither know the mantra nor the yantra. I don’t even know about your praise. I don’t know about the call, nor about your praise and story of meditation. I neither know your postures nor do I know how to lament in distraught. But, I know one thing that only by following you you will remove all my miseries and tribulations.
One should apologize to the Goddess for any mistake or omission or any shortcoming in the worship of Navratri or Durga Mai.
न मत्रं नो यन्त्रं तदपि च न जाने स्तुतिमहो
न चाह्वानं ध्यानं तदपि च न जाने स्तुतिकथाः ।
न जाने मुद्रास्ते तदपि च न जाने विलपनं
परं जाने मातस्त्वदनुसरणं क्लेशहरणम् ॥१॥
Means:- Oh mother! I neither know mantras nor instruments, oh! I don’t even have the knowledge of praise. There is neither the address of appeal nor of meditation. Stotras and stories are never knowledge. Neither do I know your postures nor do I know how to lament in distraught – but I know one thing that following you – coming in your shelter is going to defeat all troubles and all calamities ||1||विधेरज्ञानेन द्रविणविरहेणालसतया
विधेयाशक्यत्वात्तव चरणयोर्या च्युतिरभूत् ।
तदेतत् क्षन्तव्यं जननि सकलोद्धारिणि शिवे
कुपुत्रो जायेत क्वचिदपि कुमाता न भवति ॥२॥
Means :- Oh mother! Beneficial mother who uplifts everyone! I do not know the method of worship. I also lack money. I am lazy by nature and I can’t even edit the worship properly. For all these reasons, forgive the mistake that has happened in the service of your feet – because it is possible for a son to be a bad son, but a mother can never be a kumata.
पृथिव्यां पुत्रास्ते जननि बहवः सन्ति सरलाः
परं तेषां मध्ये विरलतरलोऽहं तव सुतः ।
मदीयोऽयं त्यागः समुचितमिदं नो तव शिवे
कुपुत्रो जायेत क्वचिदपि कुमाता न भवति ॥३॥
Of course :- Mother! You have many simple sons on this earth, but among them all, I am your most agile child. Birla must be fickle like me. Shiva! This sacrifice of mine, it is never appropriate for you – because it is possible to have an evil son in the world, but a mother cannot be a kumata.
जगन्मातर्मातस्तव चरणसेवा न रचिता
न वा दत्तं देवि द्रविणमपि भूयस्तव मया ।
तथापि त्वं स्नेहं मयि निरुपमं यत्प्रकुरुषे
कुपुत्रो जायेत क्वचिदपि कुमाता न भवति ॥४॥
Of course :- Jagdamba! Mother ! I have never served your feet. Goddess ! Didn’t even dedicate much money to you, however, the reason you show unique affection on a wretched person like me is that a bad son can be born in the world but there can’t be a kumata anywhere.
परित्यक्ता देवा विविधविधसेवाकुलतया
मया पञ्चाशीतेरधिकमपनीते तु वयसि ।
इदानीं चेन्मातस्तव यदि कृपा नापि भविता
निरालम्बो लम्बोदरजननि कं यामि शरणम् ॥५॥
Means :- O mother who gave birth to Shri Ganesh! I had to be busy in various types of services. That’s why after more than 85 years of age, I have left the deities. Now I am not able to worship him, so there is no hope of getting any help from him. If I don’t have your grace at this time, then in whose refuge will I go after relying on you?
श्वपाको जल्पाको भवति मधुपाकोपमगिरा
निरातङ्को रङ्को विहरति चिरं कोटिकनकैः ।
तवापर्णे कर्णे विशति मनुवर्णे फलमिदं
जनः को जानीते जननि जपनीयं जपविधौ ॥६॥
Means :- O Mother Aparna! If even a single letter of your mantra falls in my ear, then the result will be that even a foolish Chandal becomes an excellent speaker who utters sweet words like a honeycomb; A poor man, having been endowed with crores of currencies, continues to live dependently for ever. When there is such a result of listening to one letter of the mantra, then what will be the best result obtained by chanting by those who are engaged in chanting methodically? What human being can know this?
चिताभस्मालेपो गरलमशनं दिक्पटधरो
जटाधारी कण्ठे भुजगपतिहारी पशुपतिः ।
कपाली भूतेशो भजति जगदीशैकपदवीं
भवानि त्वत्पाणिग्रहणपरिपाटीफलमिदम् ॥७॥
Of course :- Bhavani! Who wraps his body in the ashes of pyre, whose food is poison, who is digambardhari {living naked}, goes on the head and wears the cobra Vashuki in the form of a necklace, and in whose hand the hair is found beautiful, What is the reason for such a ghostly Pashupati who bears the title of only ‘Jagdish’? How did they get this importance? This is only the result of your practice of water eclipse. Means – their importance has increased by getting married with you.
न मोक्षस्याकाङ्क्षा भवविभववाञ्छापि च न मे
न विज्ञानापेक्षा शशिमुखि सुखेच्छापि न पुनः ।
अतस्त्वां संयाचे जननि जननं यातु मम वै
मृडानी रुद्राणी शिव शिव भवानीति जपतः ॥८॥
Means :- The mother who wears the beauty of the moon on her face! I have no desire for salvation, I have no desire for the glory of the world; There is no expectation of science, no aspiration of happiness; Therefore, I request you that my birth should be spent chanting these names, Mridani, Rudrani, Shiv-Shiv Bhavani.
नाराधितासि विधिना विविधोपचारैः
किं रुक्षचिन्तनपरैर्न कृतं वचोभिः ।
श्यामे त्वमेव यदि किञ्चन मय्यनाथे
धत्से कृपामुचितमम्ब परं तवैव ॥९॥
Of course :- Mother Shyama! I could not worship you with all the rituals with different types of worship materials. What crime has not been committed by my speech which always contemplates harsh feelings? Even then, by trying yourself, the little kindness you keep on me, mother! It is worthy of you. Only a compassionate mother like you can give shelter to a bad son like me.
आपत्सु मग्नः स्मरणं त्वदीयं
करोमि दुर्गे करुणार्णवेशि ।
नैतच्छठत्वं मम भावयेथाः
क्षुधातृषार्ता जननीं स्मरन्ति ॥१०॥
Means :- Mother Durga! Karuna Sindhu Maheshwari! I remember you today {and I never did before} in the midst of calamities;
जगदम्ब विचित्रमत्र किं
परिपूर्णा करुणास्ति चेन्मयि ।
अपराधपरम्परापरं
न हि माता समुपेक्षते सुतम् ॥११॥
Of course :- O Jagdambe! It is surprising that your grace has remained on me,,, The son goes on committing crime after crime, yet the mother does not ignore him.
मत्समः पातकी नास्ति पापघ्नी त्वत्समा न हि ।
एवं ज्ञात्वा महादेवि यथायोग्यं तथा कुरु ॥१२॥
Means :- O Mahadevi! There is no snake like me and there is no sin like you, know that do what is right.
