Overview of Shiv Parvati Vivah Katha
Description about the marriage of Lord Shiva is found in the Puranas. According to mythology, Lord Shiva first married Sati. This marriage of Lord Shiva took place in very complicated circumstances. Sati’s father Daksha did not want to marry his daughter to Lord Shiva, but this marriage took place at the behest of Lord Brahma.
In the marriage of Shiva-Parvati, Lord Vishnu himself performed the rituals of Parvati’s brother. While Brahmaji became a priest in that marriage. At that time, all the Gods and Goddesses, saints and sages and Shivganas, demons and ghosts all participated in the ceremony. Before Shiva-Parvati marriage, the deities had also bathed there in the holy place, then 3 kunds were formed there, which were called Rudra Kund, Vishnu Kund and Brahma Kund. The water in these three kunds comes from Saraswati Kund.
Story of Shiv Parvati Vivah
One day, King Daksha insulted Lord Shiva, due to which mother Sati immolated herself by jumping into the yagya. After this incident Lord Shiva got engrossed in penance. On the other side, Mata Sati was born in the form of Parvati at Himwan’s place. At that time there was terror of an Asura named Tarakasur. The gods were afraid of him.
Tarakasura had a boon that only a child of Lord Shiva could kill him. Even at that time Lord Shiva was engrossed in his penance. Then all the gods together planned the marriage of Shiva and Parvati. Kamadeva was sent to break the penance of Lord Shiva but he was reduced to ashes. On the request of the deities, Shiva agreed to marry Parvati.
After the matter of marriage was fixed, preparations were made for the procession of Lord Shiva. Gods, demons, ganas, animals all participated in this procession. Ghosts and vampires also reached the procession of Lord Shiva. Parvati ji’s mother was very scared after seeing such a procession and said that she cannot hand over such a groom to her daughter. Then the deities prepared Lord Shiva according to tradition, decorated him beautifully, after which the marriage of both was completed.

नंदी भृंगी बीन लाही सारा मदमाता।
